The year 2013 was a great year for the film industry and it came up with many good movies that left the audience in awe and admiration. Dallas Buyers Club, 12 years a Slave and Gravity are the three best movies of the year 2013.

 

Dallas Buyers Club

This movie is directed by Jean Marc and is set up in 1980s, where Ron Woodroof, the lead character of the film, which is played by Matthew McConaughey, is an HIV patient. The movie has bagged three Oscar nominations and it has been nominated for several other awards as well. It is about an HIV patient and his struggle when he smuggles some illegal drugs to Texas which are helpful for the HIV patients to relieve their pain and extend their life for a few more months. Since at that time, the patients hardly got a month or two to live, it was very disturbing for the patients and even the society treated them differently. The LBGT community is also taken into consideration in this film and compassion is shown towards them. Ron establishes a Dallas Buyers Club where the HIV patients can get the medicine and relieve their pain. This club is however opposed by the hospitals, doctors and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

 

12 years a Slave

Directed by Steve McQueen, 12 years a Slave is another Oscar nominated film, which was highly loved, by the audience and the critics. This movie is set up in 1841, where a free Negro was kidnapped and was forced to slavery. Chiwetel Ejiofor is the main lead in the film and plays the role of Northup. He is sold to a master who beats him on several occasions and goes in the hands of the masters who do not treat him well. The film tells about what the slaves at that time went through and about the misery that was filled in their lives.

 

Gravity

Gravity is a 3D science Fiction which is a space drama film directed by Alfonso Cuaron. The main leads in the film are Sandra Bullock and George Clooney who are astronauts who involve in the destruction of a space shuttle in the mid orbit. Their attempt to return to earth is shown in the film very beautifully and the film is based on that. The film has bagged several Oscar nominations for Best Film, Best Director and Best actor.
