Why you should visit London at Christmas

If you have ever visited London during the festive periods then you will understand just how busy those classic shopping sprees on Oxford Street can be, but don’t let a little elbow here and there put you off the beauty London has to offer.

Not only will you be dazzled by the lights you will find on almost every street (Be sure to go to the opening of the Oxford Street lights – it truly is magical!) you will feel an all-round festive feeling! Even those who would usually storm past you in the mornings take a moment to appreciate the true beauty that is London.

Only in London will you walk down the streets and see such a different variety of culture so there is no need to worry about whether you would fit in, if that isn’t enough to make you jump on the next plane, check out Flybe for cheaper flights and explore all that London has to offer.

If (unlike me) you’re a natural skater and find yourself in and around London thinking what to do next, take a trip (not literally) to one of the many outdoor Ice Rinks. With every rink offering spectacular scenery in an every-day situation, imagine what it would look like all lit up after dark? Grab that special someone or a few friends; throw on those hats and scarfs and skate away. If you’re feeling nervous then there are plenty of opportunities to soak up some mulled wine so you have no excuse!

I’m sure almost every loves zoo’s right? Well, London Zoo puts on an amazing Christmas show; get up close with Dancer and Prancer! Take a journey through the magical town of Elfville and be greeted by singing elves, feed the reindeers and write letters to Santa. Combine that with the general aspect of visiting some of the world’s largest, smallest, dangerous and cuddly animals and let’s face it – what have you got to lose?

Don’t forget all the shopping experiences you can encounter! Oxford Street, Regent Street, Mayfair, Camden Market, Westfield and Carnaby Street are just a few of the places you can access to buy those special gifts!

And lastly, the yearly must do – Winter Wonderland! I would be pretty shocked if you haven’t heard of the annual Winter Wonderland found in Hyde Park. Whilst entry is free be sure to take some cash to take advantage of everything there is to offer. Take a romantic stroll through rows and rows of Christmas stalls whilst listening to classic Christmas tunes. If you’re still not impressed you can go and explore the fairground; where you will find rides -including an observation wheel- suitable for all ages and adrenaline levels (don’t worry, we’re not judging.)If you prefer to have your feet firmly on the ground then go and check out the Magical Ice Kingdom and get up close with real snow and ice, the sculptures truly are beautiful! I haven’t even covered half of what Hyde Park has to offer, I go every year and I can honestly say it just gets better each year. Make a day out of it and get plenty of photos, but whatever you do, DO NOT FORGET to visit Santa in the Santa’s Grotto!

London truly is a beautiful city, watch it become alive at night and feel the festive cheer this year! Whether you travel by plane, car, train or boat, be sure to visit! Who knows? Maybe we can meet up for a nice cuppa!
